“Come to the table, all you who are hungry and thirsty, and I will give you rest.” These are the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28, inviting us to find rest and nourishment in Him. Just as a table is a place where we gather to share food and fellowship, Jesus invites us to come to Him, the source of all nourishment, and find rest for our souls. As we begin this devotional, let us accept Jesus’ invitation and come to the table, ready to receive all that He has for us....
In John 6:35, Jesus declares, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Just as bread sustains our physical bodies, Jesus sustains our spiritual lives. In Psalm 116:13, the psalmist proclaims, “I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.” As we come to the table, we lift up the cup of salvation, remembering that Jesus shed His blood on the cross to save us from our sins. In Luke 22:14-20, Jesus shares a final meal with His disciples before His crucifixion, a meal that has come to be known as the Last Supper. In Revelation 19:9, John describes a future feast, saying, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” This feast is a symbol of the ultimate victory of Christ and the consummation of all things.
