Have you ever noticed how many verses there are about fear? The Lord knew that we’d all struggle with being fearful….often. The enemy wants us to be in a state of fear and worry. We’re bombarded with the what ifs and the chaos that fear brings. God reminds us repeatedly not to be afraid. To trust Him. I’ve frequently had to deal with overcoming fears. I was reminded of this verse recently:
“for God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Tim. 1:7
Lately, I’ve been very aware of how often conversations start with “I’m so afraid that….” This seems especially true in the parenting world. Peyton and I are still new to parenting. With a one year old daughter and twin boys on the way, it’s easy to be consumed with fears. I have employees that are farther along in parenting and that comes with other fears. Fear of starting school, fear of making the team, fear that they’re thriving at school, fear that they’re making good choices. One of my employees sent her son off to the Army just yesterday. Another one’s daughter is moving off to college in a month. I even have grandparents here that carry around fears for their adult children. But, if we look to God’s Word, we see that fear didn’t come from Him. He is our refuge and strength. He will be with us, no matter what comes our way. And He is working all things out for good. He can be trusted in every circumstance.
Fear creeps in, takes over and robs us of the joys of living. God gives us power, love and self control. He gives life and peace. Fear takes away. God gives abundantly.
Trust His plan.
Have a great rest of the week!
